In the book “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime”, the protagonist Christopher Boone uses the element of Logos , or logic, to come to a conclusion or decision. The purpose of using logos is to help Christopher get a grip on reality, and to better connect to the world. Christopher perceived the world differently than others, and so he uses logic to connect better with his surroundings.
Christopher best understands situations in which he can explain with logic rather than emotion. Christopher is inspired greatly by the character ‘Sherlock Holmes’ , by approaching mysteries with a logical mindset to seek the truth. He often feels overwhelmed by his surroundings, so he turns to logic for help in understanding and reasoning the truth.
In this passage, Christopher uses the logic of that dogs cannot talk or lie , to prove that they are faithful. This logic gives him a reason to like and trust dogs. Christopher also often uses reasoning to find which emotion he should be feeling, a way to connect with the rest of the world. He often dislikes people who lie to him, simply because he is unable to comprehend why a person would do so.
